FAQ
What is Acupuncture?
Acupuncture is a technique of Traditional Chinese Medicine (TCM), which is a comprehensive and well-established approach of medicine dating back thousands of years. TCM can include the practice of Acupuncture, along with other therapies called moxibustion, herbal medicines, gua sha, and/or cupping. Based on a person’s indications, these therapies can be applied individually, or in combination, using a systematic approach to treat an individual as a whole. All of these therapies have been developed to assist in restoring balance to the body to increase health and well-being.
How does Acupuncture work?
Acupuncture and TCM are centered around the principle of Qi (pronounced “chee”), which is the vital energy that flows through and animates all aspects of the body. In TCM, it is believed that Qi moves through meridians, or channels, to every part of the body. When disease presents itself, it is approached as an imbalance in the amount or proper movement of Qi. Treatments are designed to regulate and restore the proper flow of Qi and to assist the body to naturally heal itself. Acupuncture, specifically, involves the insertion of an extremely thin needle in a pre-determined point on the body to stimulate the flow of this vital energy, to help return balance and assist the body in the natural healing process.
